Reading Recovery Read Aloud

This is a very special week for Reading Recovery teachers like myself.  The Reading Recovery team at the International Literacy Centre share the mission of  Save the Children's 'Read on Get on' campaign to ensure that by 2025 every child is a confident reader by age 11.  All over the country children who are having/have had Reading Recovery are reading to someone special.

At Cabot, some Year 1 children have read one of their favourite stories to a local police officer and some Year 5 children read to Paul Jacobs, Service Director, Education and Skills, Bristol City Council.  All the visitors were very impressed with the children's reading.  The Year 5's in particular read with such expression that Mr Jacobs wants to read the books himself so he can find out how the stories end!

Of course the most important person a child can read with is someone from their own family.  Please make a special effort this week to sit back, relax and listen to your child read - you'll be in for a treat!
